December 2025 Member Spotlight: Jill Jantzen

As the year winds down and we celebrate another season of music-making, we’re thrilled to highlight one of our own Ohio MTA Southwest members whose teaching life is as inspiring as it is varied. Jill Jantzen brings curiosity, joy, and dedication to every corner of her work. This month’s spotlight invites you to get to know her a little better through this Q&A feature.

Where do you currently teach, and how would you describe your studio?

“I teach at the Loveland Music Academy in Loveland, OH and Thomas More University in Crestview Hills, KY. It’s a privilege to teach every age of student; pre-college to college students, young professionals to retirees. The variety of personality and life experience of each student makes for a vibrant teaching load.”

What led you to a career in teaching music?

“I love playing piano, and I’ve wanted to be a pianist for most of my life. Over my years of study, I realized that, in addition to performing, teaching is a wonderful way to share my joy of music with others. It’s inspiring to see a student connect deeply with their music just as I do.”

Why did you decide to join MTNA?

“I joined MTNA for networking opportunities and to take advantage of the teaching resources available through the organization.”

What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a music teacher?

“Make a studio policy! It outlines expectations for the student and families, and it provides structure to your business to help it run smoothly.”

What music do you like to listen to in your free time?

“I enjoy indie rock and bluegrass music, but when my ears need a break from listening to music, I turn to audiobooks.”

What hobbies do you enjoy outside of music?

“I love walking, and luckily Cincinnati offers so many beautiful places to venture off to. I’ve also been refreshing my high school German on Duolingo - I’m on a 1,200 day streak!”

Do you have a favorite vacation spot?

“Northern Michigan is one of my family’s favorite spots to take a trip. No matter the season, there is always an adventure to be had.”

Is there something people might be surprised to learn about you?

“I recently started taking beginning ballet classes, and I love it!”

We’re grateful to have Jill as part of our district and appreciate the creativity, heart, and energy she brings to her students and to our teaching community.

Her dedication reminds us why this work matters and how many different paths a musical life can take. We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into her story as we close out 2025. If you see Jill at a meeting or event, be sure to say hello and congratulate her on being our December Member Spotlight!
