This month we are excited to feature Jon Sanford, a dedicated member of OhioMTA Southwest. Learn more about his teaching, his background, and what inspires him outside the studio.
Where do you teach now and what kind of a studio do you have?
“I teach piano lessons in Oxford, Ohio and direct a multi-teacher academy that offers lessons in piano, guitar, drums, voice, violin, viola, cello, flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and horn.”
Why did you decide to join the MTNA?
“I decided to join MTNA to be a part of the magnificent network of like-minded teachers and musicians. It has been great to connect, share ideas, and learn from the best in the profession at each national conference. I'm looking forward to attending my 9th MTNA national conference in 2026!”
What was your first job?
“My first job was a roofer for a family-friend's business, quite different from the pianist and teacher that I am now!”
What’s your ideal Saturday?
“If I'm not working at the academy, I love to escape the piano for a bit and get outdoors to bike, kayak, or hike with my dog Coda.”
What are we likely to find in your refrigerator?
“Too much Dr. Pepper!”
What’s the most recent experience you’ve crossed off your bucket list?
“I traveled to Spain to accompany a choir tour and finally got to put my high school Spanish training to the test in a Spanish-speaking country.”
We are grateful for members like Jon Sanford who bring talent, dedication, and a love of teaching to our community.
